Culture and Music

The people of KGEWGA had a music that resembles with Arabic, Alabanians, Turkish music. The forgotten music will be uncovered.

ANDOR , YONGA OR GAYAA, OLUKE, or ALELEJEE , TAMBURAY

The Ottomans brought with them musical instruments for instance: yoga or gayo and temporary. Yonga or gayaa made of lema in our langue or Bamboo is widely used and could be found in most of the houses. The instruments are used for wedding ceremonies, during Eids, and important occasions of the year. As fewer people used and more people started to come and live closer to the people of the ship, the music changed dramatically particularly during Menelik imposed assimilation or the Ethiopianization movement.

The language fits well with classic Far Eastern music i.e Turkish and Albanians. We want to uncover what we had and be integrated with the Far East particularly with their music, dances, and culture. Some adopted neighbor’s songs, dances, and some stick with our Muslim prophet Mohammed (PBUH) music that is Arabic. Our prophet repeatedly mentioned in his Haddis, Muslims should live the fullest in this world. Joyfulness is very much celebrated.

We share similarities with great people of bete Gurage's song, food, culture, cultural laws, and cloth outfits.
